The Tommy Sexton Shelter provides accommodations for men and women over the age of 16 in need of emergency or short term shelter.  Priority is given to people living with HIV or AIDS.  We provide services in a manner that respects the diverse experiences and needs of each individual.  We are committed to fostering an atmosphere of care, support and respect between residents, staff and volunteers.  Recognizing the right of individuals to self-determination, we aim to assist them in recognizing and developing their strengths and potential.
 

A few facts about the Short Term Shelter

  • Emergency and short term shelter services are available to individuals 16+
  • The shelter is unisex
  • Priority is given to people living with HIV or AIDS
  • The shelter is a 4 bedroom facility
  • Wheelchair accessible
  • The shelter is open and staffed 24 hours a day
  • Three meals a day as well as snacks are provided in a shared kitchen
  • Residents share 2 washrooms and a living area
  • A shared laundry facility is available to all residents
  • Shelter staff provide individual support, life-skills teaching, as well as links and referrals to various services and resources
  • Low barrier harm reduction shelter
     

The Tommy Sexton Shelter is not able to

  • Administer medications
  • Provide treatment for physical or mental illness
  • provide any type of homecare services
  • provide permanent housing
