The AIDS Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador (ACNL) is a provincial community-based, non-profit charitable organization committed to preventing the spread of HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), and related sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) through education and supportive harm reduction-based programs and services. What started as a kitchen group providing meals to people in the community, ACNL earned its official organization status in 1988. Almost four decades later, we continue to support people living with, affected by, or at risk for HIV/AIDS and/or HCV.

ACNL is located in the Tommy Sexton Centre which is named after the beloved and hilarious Canadian film and television icon, Tommy Sexton. Born right here in St. John’s, Tommy died of AIDS-related complications on December 13, 1993 at the age of 36. We continue to honour and celebrate Tommy’s legacy, and the love he shared for this world and his craft.

We invite you to learn more about who we are and the different programs and services we offer by browsing and using the resources on our website and getting involved where you can. We thank the community and our funders and sponsors for their continued support and dedication to our work!
